There were some frequent and common comments from Aimee and I while going through individual desk crits on Wednesday, such as the absence of site context and/or focusing too much on details.

To better facilitate the desk crit on Friday, please have the following ready for review:

1) Concept statement and diagrams
· Attempt to have a succinct statement of your overall objective for the Y. So don’t forget who is using, and how they are using the Y!
· Diagrams/Sketches supporting the above (most of you have this already)

2) Program confirmation
· This does not have to be hard numbers with all the square footage accounted for.
· It should, however, be a program list that supports the concept statement.

3) Site context sketches
· The neighborhood is a rich context, so take advantage of it! SHOW us how the concept draws and gives back to the community.
· Show which program elements engage the street, the residential blocks, the federal offices, etc.

4) Environmental Strategy
· Sean gave a plethora of choices to reinforce your concept. Select a few strategies that seem pertinent to the concept.

5) Plans AND Sections (the font is bigger because it’s important)
· Develop plans and sections simultaneously. Plans should inform sections, and vice versa. Sketch out in perspective the moments that seem vital to your concept.
· Both should illustrate how programmatic adjacencies and stacks speak to your CONCEPT, while incorporating the site context and environmental strategy.

***All the above should be printed out on 11x17. Materials shown on the monitor should only be supporting, not the main.
