Final Requirements & Sheet List

Coverpage 1) use some good graphic or sketch here that encapsulates your concept

A0 series
General Description: sheet index / location / building data / code data / site analysis
Products: (1) Context plan, (?) code diagrams, (1) rendered site plan
1) Index is just a sheet list.
2) RENDERED site plan with context / neighborhood relationships- show circulation paths, service drives, etc.
3) Place a table in here of what your program is with areas and how that adds up to be less than the allowed square footage for the site.
4) Tying in with item 2 above, list the applicable planning code data.
5) List the California Building Code occupancies that are in your building and show your maximum area calculation. Indicate on your code diagrams.
6) Code diagrams show how people exit the building.

A1 series
General Description: concept / design process
Products: (2 min.) perspectives / (2 min.) model photos / materials
1) Should be self-explanatory. Try to demonstrate the iterative process through the semester. Sketches, models, mappings, skin studies etc.
2) If you have specifications or scans of materials, they could go here. Can also tie into elevations.

A2 series
General Description: building plans
Products: (?) ALL relevant plans
1) These are simply enough, plans. Exiting diagrams may go here or in the A0 series.
2) Show program adjacencies- structural grid (dimensioned)- vertical circulation cores, MEP cores.

A3 series
General Description: building elevations / building sections
Products: (2 min.) building elevations from Larkin and Golden Gate, (2 min.) Site/ Building Section from East-West and from North-South
1) NOTATE and RENDER materials used on elevations. Show shadows for depth.
2) Situating your proposed building in elevation within the context will be helpful.
3) Make sure you add elevation tags to the elevations and sections

A4 series
General Description: wall sections / details
Products: (2 min.) wall sections, (2. min) enlarged details from wall sections
1) Wall sections at a minimum scale of ¾” up to 1-1/2”. Add humans for scale in sections.
2) Enlarged details are a minimum of 1-1/2”. Make sure these are tagged in the appropriate wall sections.
3) Dimension and notate materials!!!

A5 series
General Description: building systems / sustainable aspects
Products: (2 min.) axonometric diagram(s) and/or wall section(s)
1) Use axonometric or perspectival sections to describe your conceptual environmental systems (similar to sketches of Sean Timmons).
2) How does the mechanical system actually work? Is it passively ventilated? If so, how does the air flow through the building?
3) Do you have a green roof? Is it a cool roof?
4) What kind of technologies are you employing as far as power generation? How about solar gain control, glare control and day-lighting? In short, how does the building respond to its context?
5) You can use the same drawings from your A3 and A4 series as backgrounds to show building systems / sustainable aspects.


Model
General Description: Self-explanatory
Products: DETAILED physical model that fits into the site context model built by the class.

Remember, in general, you need to think about which method (drawing, model, photo, etc.) illustrates what you are trying to convey the best. Do not take the above as a list to check off. All the above must SUPPORT your concept. Make appropriate decisions. For those who are laying out presentation boards (ambitious!), always remember that how you present material is also part of your design. Make sure you tie in your boards so they “flow” together and may reinforce your concept or ideas. For those who plan to pin-up the booklet as presentation, make sure it is PRESENTATION QUALITY!!! Legibility is key!!!


For titleblocks on the booklet, make sure you have the following information:

- name of project with address and location
- logo?
- Name (you’re the designer…)
- North arrow
- Scale of drawing for that sheet (if varies, then also notate under the drawings)
- Title of sheet (ie: Ground Level Plan)
- Sheet Number
- Note: The titleblock is not required on the coverpage. That sheet should be graphical with the name of the project and your own name.
